The Southside Lady Cardinal Golf Team won the Calallen Invitational Tournament.  The Lady Cardinals were led by juniors Samantha Martinez, Kristen Garcia and Marcella Guzman.  Freshmen Lisha Tarin and Brittany Valentin gained valuable experience for upcoming tournaments.  Martinez won top medalist honors with a score of 85.

Crystal Byrom, a former Southside Middle School student, is SISD's Food Services Director and this was her life-long dream.    "It was so exciting to see Southside High School cheerleaders cheer for you during the marathon."  This was Ms. Byrom's first marathon and she plans to run again at the Nashville Marathon in April. 

 

Ms. Jennifer Hernandez, Southside High School's Biology teacher, could not wait for this event.  She also ran 26.2 miles!  "This was like therapy to me. It was a way of letting go of many tough times that I've been through."  Hernandez graduated from the University of the Incarnate Word.  She's been teaching at Southside for four years.  She plans to run a marathon in Arizona January 18, 2009.
